I think there are more opportunities available, especially in California. Silicon Valley is the best place to start searching for an IT person. Utilise your university's resources to the fullest, like job listings, if they let you post resumes on their site (at my univ. we had a whole center for jobs and all and you can post your resume on their website and even apply for jobs from there). Have a powerful and well organized resume. That's your selling point. If you have a resume that you whipped up in five minutes, trust me, companies can tell. Ya use your contacts. That's true too.
