My Lexmark X83 printer hasn’t been used since long time and doesn’t work anymore. I suspected that the ink (which wasn’t used much) has dried up. So I went to nearest Circuit City to get the cartridges. The black and color ink cartridges cost $59.00 ($26 + $33). Since this was the first time I was buying an ink cartridge, I thought it was too high, so I goto the nearest Best Buy to buy them. I find same prices there as well….but I also found out that a new Epson Stylus C86 was on sale $49.99. So why do I even need to buy the ink cartridges? I can always buy a new printer and put the old one in garbage. The Epson printer uses 4 ink cartridges CMYK . and each costs about $12.00 that is $48.00 in all (cheaper
). Moreover if I am out of one color, I can still use other colors, say if am out of black color I can print dark blue which looks similar to black.
So now I have one printer working and the other non working printer can be used for scanning! I haven’t installed the new printer yet but I’ll do it the first thing in the morning and would share it on the network.
It is strange that I bought the printer a few hours after I read this post. Too many coincidences.

1Now that’s very interesting. First, that you also bought a new printer (Congrats by the way).
I think its a really good buy. I had a Lexmark for quite some time but I was never really content with its quality. Epson is a good one. That was my last printer and it worked fabulous.
Second, you pinged me, but I didn’t get the notification.
Hmm..kuch gadbad hai. Will have to see what’s wrong — its not from your side. Its definitely from mine.

2The only reason I had bought Epson printer few month ago was coz of separate ink cartridges it makes it economical because I had HP before and the ink use to get dried coz I occasionally use to use the printer
Here you get new Hp colored cartridges e for 1100+ and if u buy new basic HP printer price starts at 2500 and with new printer u get one cartridge Free so its foolish for the owner who owns the staring range of HP printers lol
Also I remember reading somewhere that HP cartridges which available in India are made by Canon or Epson I think cannon probably not sure will chec

3Thanks Poonam. I was also wondering about the pingback. Did u allow pings for the post?
Yeah puneet, 4 dartridges do help in saving money. I think its great that these days the technology is available everywhere in the world at the same time. A few years ago the products that were available in US would come to Indian markets atleast after an year or so.

4Suddenly realized how these big stores make fool of the consumers.
The printer was advertized as $49.99 in one of their instore sale papers.
But the price was $99.99 and they had $20.00 mail-in-rebate from the Epson which made it $79.99.
On top of that Best Buy had special mail-in-rebate for $30.00 this friday and staurday which made the printer cost me $49.99
…but they charged me $108 + sm cents n handed me the mail-in-rebate receipts. The catch here is that they charged me sales tax for $99.99 but advertized that printer for $49.99.
Everytime I buy a mail-in-rebate product, I promise myself not to buy it next time….but I fall into the trap.
Y do they even have mail-in-rebates? If they wanna give the customers some discount then they can give it instantly. or may be sell that printer for $55 - $60 with instant rebate. Most of the people forget about the MIRs and the companies earn a lot of extra money. I think these are scams and MIRs should not be there.

5I NEVER forget about the mail in rebates. That’s the best way to save. What I do is when I buy a product and bring it back home, the first thing I do, prior to even setting it up, is do the mail-in rebates, put it in an envelope with its specs and get it ready to send.
Best way to do it — its money man that you will get back in the mail in a month. Its great.
They should do it in India too. You end up getting it for 49 bucks, but u just have to wait.

6lol…if they can sell it for 49 bucks with mail in rebates then y can’t they sell it for the same price with instant rebates? Y do they want people to mail them n stuff.

7so they don’t have to give it to you instantly and the other reason is, like you said, alot of people forget. So if you forget to turn in that 20 buck main-in rebate, then that’s just money they made off ya. So its better to just mail it in immediately. Don’t let them have the benefit of the doubt.
