India is under outsourcing boom. Inspite of government change and a rulling coalition, Indian economy is growing at a tremendous rate. There is a lot of hiring going on right now. Fresh grads from colleges are getting good salaries, which are more than enough to support themselves (may be not their families). Due to all this the buying power of youth is increasing and a lot of companies are making money out of it. Evere wondered why most of the Ads and commercials target youngsters? Its because they (not all, but most) buy what they like and aren’t sensible enough to choose what is right and what is wrong for them. We are prospering.
We are definetly prospering economically but what about other aspects? Indian culture is gradually dimnishing away from big cities. People are forgetting traditions, nuclear families are on rise, pre-marital sex isn’t a taboo anymore for a lot of people…etc.
What has happened to Indian children? asks Poonam of www.neerajpoonam.com – I believe that it is a residue (side effect) of the changing society. Everything has a price.
Globalization is good for India as it has opened a lot of opportunities for Indians. Now by a click of a mouse you can easily get an outsourcing contract from a US firm and happily live ever after, but with the same click of the mouse your child can access and download alien culture into himself.
These days most of the kids have become americanized. A lot of people think that all Indian things are simply BS and things are cool. Its true that some Indian things are of lower quality than intl. standards, but that doesn’t mean that everything Indian “sucks”. A lot of people get fascinated by western culture. They think “amrika mein to bahut azadi hai”, but they don’t know that that freedom has a cost. Cost of stress, depression. Its true that a lot of American adults (18 yrs old) don’t live with their parents, they live with their partners and do whatever they like. But they have to earn their own bread and butter at the age of 18, when most of Indian kids are still enjoying their school/college life with parent’s money.
A couple of days ago I heard about an incident that took place in Delhi. It involves 2 11th class kids. It is regarding a porn video shot by 2 students of DPS RK Puram (I am an ex-dipsite but not RKP) in “compromising positions”. There are a lot of rumors about the whole incident. Principal Shyama Chona has expelled the students. But I fail to understand why?
According to me, they didn’t do anything wrong, which would qualify them for an expulsion. What they did was morally/ socially wrong but nothing acadmically or anything related to school.
Acc. to this article @ The Telegraph,
Two Class XI students had sex on their school premises
which is so very much not true.
Moreover the article has a quote
“I really feel sad for the girl. Maybe she was drunk or doped when it was happening. Or maybe she just got into bad company,” said a student.
which isn’t true either. She was fully aware of wat she was doing.
The article also claims
The school has put up a notice warning parents and students against bringing mobile phones. Anyone caught with a cellphone on the premises will face confiscation and a Rs 1,000 penalty.
(acc. to sify and indiatimes it is 2000)
Ok….fine students won’t bring a cellphone to the school, what about a digital camera? there isn’t a fine on that. If the school really wants to eradicate the problem or avoid such a situation, then they shouldn’t use such lame tactics.
If they haven’t done anything in the school premisis and the school isn’t invloved in any way (except for the fact that they were studying there) then DPS RKP has no authority to expel them, though their parents can beat them to death.
Acc. to Indiatimes, the boy was pissed off as the girl dumped him and thus he sold the video, which had been filmed before their break up, to his batchmates @ Rs. 100
The incident had happened a little over a month ago, when two eleventh standard students of DPS RK Puram, a top south Delhi school, had filmed their sex act on the boy’s mobile phone “just for kicks”.
Note that “just for kicks” is refered to the filming of the sexual act and not the sexual act itself.
I am not quiet convinced with the article (dunno the truth though). If she wasn’t in such a deep relationship with the boy then why would she let him record the act, where he can’t even be seen?
Another article which makes little bit of more sense to me is at Sify. Acc. to this article
Reportedly, the incident occured about a month ago when a girl and a boy, both students of Class 11, got together and filmed themselves in a compromising position. Their subsequent claim to fame is all of 2.37 mins.
The film was then circulated among fellow batchmates in the school through MMS for fun. Fellow students claim the girl wanted to be ‘cool’ and gain some instant popularity. Unfortunately for them, the film reached the Principal who expelled the two.
Moreover it claims that
It is being said that on being questioned by the Principal, both students did not appear to be ashamed of what they had done. In fact, the girl even reportedly retorted, “Who doesn’t do it? Haven’t you done it?” The boy is equally nonchalant about what he had done, according to his peers.
Acc. to the article the girl “was a merit-lister – she was part of the Class XI `super ability section’ where only above 90 percent scorers find their way.” If she is an excellent student then her expulsion should be based on her academic performance and not due to the fact that she did “something” at a place other than her school.
Is it just Indian kids who do this? And the answer is no
A not so old case of a 15 year old boy raping his mother was witnessed in Britain. I think it would be the worst crime ethically/morally and socially. According to me there can be no bigger crime than this.
There are numerous other cases where teenagers indulge in these kinds of activities.
Does school kids in US indulge in activities like these? And the answer is yes.
A few days ago I was reading a discussion on a News article about how 5 teenage school girls forced their claasmate to become a prostitute, so that those girls can pay their cellphone bill and have some “pocket money”. In the course of discussion I found this
In the states, I teach in a very diverse inner city school. I have heard about students performing oral sex for money in the basement of our high school. I have heard about under age prostitutes working the streets (usually after tehy dropped out). I have had students who slept around with significantly older men so they could have things. I also heard about three 5th graders who made it their goal to sleep with every boy in their fifth grade class. They nearly succeeded(27 boys out of 38), but got caught in the restroom with two boys while on a school field trip.
If that stuff was happening in my town, in my school ditrict, then i assure you that it is happening everywhere, but maybe just not all the time!
All these crimes/ incidents reflect that they are omni-potent and definetly have evolved from the rapid changes in the way of living and the society in general. These kind of incidents are bound to happen as the society takes a new face, but its upto us (the society) to decide if we are ready to pay the price? The things will keep happening and the societies will mold themselves accordingly. Just as Love Marriges in India were a complete no-no a few decades ago. This is the theory of evolution by Darwin.
