A few reviews

Finally, after several days I felt like writing typing something. There might be a reason for that….

Anyways I had been watching movies lately, but never got a chance to review any of them. I’ll just write a short 2-3 line reviews.

Socha Na Tha – It has been a long time since I watched this movie, I think more than 6 weeks (or whenever the DVD was released). I think it is a cool movie. If you liked Tum Bin, then you should watch SNT. Although the stories of Tum Bin and SNT are completely different, yet they have a similar touch of pyar, mohabbat, ishq, etc. SNT can be classified as a romantic comedy. The comedy is very subtle and not in your face kind of. In most cases the situations are humorous rather than the characters. I really liked the pace of the movie, specially watching it after V-Z. I hadn’t watched any of Ayesha Takia’s movies. And from the promos of Tarzan – The Wonder Car, I thought of her as an *item girl*. But that wasn’t true, she carried herself well.

Let’s Enjoy – I badly needed time pass, so I thought I’ll watch the movie, how bad can it be….? The movie met my expectations, as it was a complete time pass and if you are getting really bored and have nothing else to do in the world, you should watch the movie. There is no story whatsoever, the movie is just about a party (Period)

Bewafaa – Before watching the movie, I heard that it was a good movie and had read few good to ok reviews. I’d say that it is an *ok* movie. Nothing too great, but nothing bad either. I guess, I can give out the story as it has been a long time since the movie is released and a lot of people would have watched it already. Akshay loves Kareena; Kareena loves her sister (Sush); Anil loves Sush (his wife n mother of 2 kids); Sush dies; Kareena marries Anil; After a while, Akshay meets Kareena again in India (they were @ kaneda b4)…. Philosophically now there are 2 Bewafaais
1.) Kareena Bewafaaied Akshay (as she marries Anil)
2.) Kareena Bewafaaing Anil (by seeing Akshay)
…..da da da things happen…. l8r Anil reveals that he knew about Akshay n Kareena’s rel. and leaves it upto her to choose Bewafaai # 1 or # 2. She chooses….if u already watched the movie then u know, if you didn’t, then go watch it. Its a movie which can be watched once, unless u r a die hard fan of any of the actors in the movie.

Kaal – I watched Kaal in theatre (others were on DVD). Had high hopes and aspirations from the movie. It somewhat did meet the expectations, but wasn’t quiet convincing. Don’t read any further if you don’t want to know the story.

Weird things happen @ a wildlife park; ppl die; heads chopped off; Not certain if it is a Tiger or someone else; John shaks Vivek; Ajay Devgan saves ’em from Tigers; etc etc.. things happen; finally they come to know that its Ajay who is killin ppl n he is not a person, but an Aatma; He is an Aatma who punishes ppl. for not following the jungle rules; they manage to escape; but he still remains there.

I had predicted the suspense in the middle of the movie, when Ajay tells them the story of the guide who was killed by the people…… so it wasn’t that *suspense bhari kahani*.

1.) I felt cheated after watching the movie coz the promos, posters, songs, even the initial 2/3 – 3/4 of the movie doesn’t point you towards some supernatural thingy. I was expecting the killer to be a poacher or perhaps Vivek or even Ajay (as a human being). It would have been better if they had advertized it as a supernatural thriller or if they had shown a logical process of killing people by a man or an animal.

2.) It is really great that they had no song in the movie except for the Tauba – Tauba in the begining and one more (don’t rmmbr which 1) in the end.

3.) Esha and Lara wearing minis in the jungle is something far from reality. Moreover they had this perfect makeup even after they had been running since a long time. Do you remmember Urmila’s makeup and clothes in Jungle (the movie)?

4.) I am not sure about this, coz I’ll have to watch the movie again, but did the guy who had camera in his hand never ever looked into it when he was shooting Ajay? I *believe* that Soham, might have considered this fact and would have had shown that the guy isn’t looking into the camera, while shooting, but doesn’t it seem strange, that he never looked into the camera, whenever Ajay was in the shot? The guy freaks out before he dies, perhaps he saw that Ajay can’t be seen in the camera? I’ll need to watch those scenes.

5.) The way Esha dies is really dumb. All of them were in such a great trouble, there is death all around them, two of their friends have already died, Ajay warns her not to go near the well, but she still goes….to drink water?????? Wake up ur friends if u r dead thirsty, ask for help, its not that u r having good time in a picnic…..death is all around u….would anybody do what Esha did, if they were in same situation?

6.) The concept of the Aatma wasn’t clearly defined….was Ajay’s Aatma a regular one? Like the one we see/hear about in so many movies/shows..etc? The movie didn’t talk about the type of his Aatma, so a viewer would associate the characterstics of a regular Aatma with Ajay. But then doesn’t that mean, he can go anywhere? How come Vivek, John and Lara survived when he was a supernatural power and could go anywhere…? Did the movie say anywhere that if one can cross the park boundary, Ajay can not harm them or something like that?

7.) Why was that inspector dude introduced when he had just 2-3 minutes role? That character and the actor (forgot his name Kawaljeet?) both were wasted.

I think the movie shudn’t have shown a supernatural power doing all that stuff. But since they depicted the supernatural power doing all that, they should have shown that he has his rules….if someone breaks the rules he dies, if someone follows the rules, Ajay helps them to get out of troubles, etc.

It is great that Karan Johar is thinking on different subjects and not just sticking himself to a *gaana, bajana, rona, dhona* movies. But I think it will take him a lot of time to come at par with other director/producers such as Ram Gopal Varma.

//bahut likh diya Kaal pe…

Lucky – No Time For Love – It is a different movie, a must watch, but most prolly one time watch. Salman’s acting was good, he portrayed the emotional part well this time (I didn’t like it in HDDCS). Sneha Ullal is ok. The story was different from the usual hindi movie stories.

Kya Kool Hai Hum – Before watching the movie, I read few mixed reviews. Some of the reviews claimed that it was a really good movie, while others thought that it was a disgrace to the society and other dharam karam ki baatein.

There is no doubt the movie is *vulgar* (depends how u define the word). It has many more *double meaning* dialogues than Masti. Something that shocked me was Anupam Kher. The former chairman of the*Censor Board*, mr. Anupam Kher had a lot of dialogues, which can be easily considered as vulgar. If you are offended by double meaning jokes, don’t watch the movie.

But if you are one of the person, who needs some laughter and you don’t mind these kind of jokes, you will certainly have a nice time. There isn’t much logic in the movie, its just time pass. Urmila Matondkar, I mean Isha Kopikar performed brilliantly. Hritesh was also good.

The movies I have to watch in near future are:
Waqt – The Race Against Time (heard a lot about it.)
Kaal (only a few scenes)
Jo Bole So Nihaal (definetly have to watch this, may the dead ones R.I.P.)
Bunty Aur Babli (most prolly in theatre, may be first day first show?)
Naina (maybe?..had high hopes, but the reviews are not that great)

I guess thats it for now :p…..

Update 1: I forgot to mention a very important point about the movie KKHH. I didn’t like the way KKHH portrayed crime against women. They took the crimes like rape very lightly and made fun of it. How the commissioner responded to the journalists questions, how the rapes were commited to just gain some publicity. The sarcasm about the politicians and criminals was good, but they shouldn’t have used *rape* as a crime, murder would have been better. I am surprized why didn’t any mahila mukti morcha object to the glorification of the crime against women.

Cool reviews! I am looking forward to watch Kaal but after the reviews that I’ve heard, I think I’ll hold back for sometime. What do you think, is Kaal worth the time and money?! :)

Hi. Good reviews. I’ve heard Waqt is a pretty good movie too but so far its come out in all the wrong 2 in 1 combinations (usually its with a movie that i already have).

I’ve watched Bewaffa and thought it was ok but one thing that i think was missing was that they didnt reveal to the audience how anil finds out about Kareena and Akshay’s relationship. All that is portrayed is simply that he knows their history. But i wanted to see how he found out. To me its a gap in the story (i’ve only seen it once so maybe a missed a bit?). I mean Anil is portrayed as being very career oriented and not really interested in the day-to-day lives of people. I mean he wasn’t even in a hurry to get to the hospital when he found out Sushmita was in labour. And he wasn’t interested in Kareena romantically till till after she has that car accident and speaks her mind to him. So when did he possibly have the chance to find out about her past life? Thatz the flaw i found that i found in the movie. But like is said earlier in this post, otherwise the movie was ok :)

Oh in regards to the question you asked in Poonams blog about how much the 2 in 1 dvds cost……i pay $7-8 (depending on where i go).

Have you seen Karam? I haven’t seen it. Just wanted to know if it was any good. Judging by the reviews on the net….it seems to be just another typical movie…nothing too outstanding in it.

Bunty Aur Babli is out in the theatres here (aust) too….was thinking of going and watching it next weekend…..or maybe next tuesday entry is only half price at $5.

Abhi – U won’t feel anything missing if you skip the movie.

Pareeka – Thanks 4 visiting my blog!! Heard Waqt is great, will have to wait for the DVD… Thats a good point about Bewafaa, I never realized that. It definetly seems like a missing link. BTW I kept fwding most of the movie :p.

darrnnn 8 bucks for 2 movies :O …indeed piracy is killing the movie industry.

I never got a chance to watch Karam, but the storyline is that John is a contract killer; Priyanaka is his wife; he leaves the world of crime coz of Priyanka; smthng happens; he has to go back to that lifestyle again coz of some *majboori*; smthng smthng happens… (Tinka – 2 playing in background). I think the movie had a great soundtrack.

Tomorrow going to watch BaB. Theatre near me also sells tickets @ $5 on tuesday…is it some tradition :-/

I missed a very important point about the movie Kya Kool Hai Hum, added it.
